Standard Life Investments Building
Project LocationSt. James House, London
The new build construction of a 5 floor office building for Standard Life Investments in the heart of south west London, off Square.
The mastic work required was to externally seal approximately 60 window bays, pressings and cills, consisting largely of 20mm x 20mm glass to glass butt joints as well as sealant work between the external wall grill vents and new stonework on all floors.
Each window bay totalled around 50m giving a total metreage in the region of 3000m approximately.
Due to the extremely dusty nature on site from the new stonework, the applicator had to be especially vigilant in terms of ensuring all substrates to be sealed with silicone sealant was sufficiently clean before any mastic work could be carried out. Once clean, the 996 LM black was used to seal the main 20mm x 20mm vertical glass to glass butt joints on all the window bays on all floors of the building. Special care was taken so that the sealant was correctly tooled smoothly in against adjacent glass edges to ensure maximum adhesion would be achieved between the substrates. The same procedure was also used to seal around the metal ventilation grills and stonework substrate found on every level.
