Verve (Mclaren) ConstructionProject Background
The new build construction of a purpose built extension onto the existing site of Williams Formula 1 Engineering, in Oxfordshire.
The front facade of the building consists of 2 floors of glass panels, requiring approximately 1000m of mastic to be used in between each panel to seal the 22mm wide glass to glass facade butt joints.
Application
Each glass panel installed by Elite Aluminium Systems Ltd. measured on average 0.98 m high by 2.14m wide, of which there were 7 panels high by 21 panels along required to cover the main building facade. After installation the joint detail left was a 22mm butt joint glass to glass, with a foam backer system already in place to create a 12mm depth of joint for the sealant. All substrates to be sealed with silicone sealant was sufficiently cleaned before any mastic work could be carried out. Once clean, the 996 LM black was used to seal the joint detail previously described, with special care being taken to ensure that the sealant was correctly tooled smoothly in against the adjacent glass edges to ensure maximum adhesion would be achieved between the substrates.
